Part 3: The Instagrammer’s Guide to Road Tripping Ireland

This is part 3 of the The Instagrammer’s Guide to Road Tripping Ireland! Make sure to read part ones and two!

The route

Day 10: Connemara and Galway

Galway is by far my favorite city in Ireland. It’s young, hip, vibrant, and one of the best areas to have a “night out on the town” in Ireland. What’s even better? You can cure your hangover the next day by road tripping around Connemara and breathing in some of the freshest air I have ever felt.

Spend an the evening wandering around Galway City

Drive around Connemara National Park

Visit Kylemore Abbey and take the iconic reflection picture

Day 11: County Mayo

County Mayo often doesn’t make it to the top of many tourist lists, but in my opinion it should near the top of the list. From road tripping around Achill Island to climbing Croagh Patrick County Mayo is a nature-lover’s dream come true. If you are in the region be sure to spend a night at Claggan Island glamping site for an almost private island retreat.

Climb Croagh Patrick

Spend a day driving around Achill Island

Go on a walk along a picturesque boardwalk

Gaze in awe at Downpatrick Head

Day 12: Sligo

Sligo is a tiny county that packs a lot of punch. Every where you look you’ll be surrounded by the majestic Benbulbin mountain and the Atlantic Ocean is much wilder than the more southern sections of Ireland in my opinion. I saw the biggest waves of my life sitting in Strandhill sipping a cup of coffee and sat far too long mesmerized by the ocean. Stay tuned for my post in the next few weeks on my favorite things to do in Sligo.

Be amazed by Benbulbin

Drive around Gleniff Horseshoe

Go waterfall hunting on your way back from Gleniff Horseshoe.

Photography win: I don't consider myself a photographer, but I do love learning about photography techniques. So when we stumbled across this waterfall last week I ran back to the car to get my tripod. I've tried this a few times before but it's always been too bright to get the silky waterfall picture. I set up the camera, put it on the right setting, and stood back to watch the magic. My "remote control" is on my phone and when I looked down sure enough there was a silky waterfall! I literally jumped for joy and squealed probably a bit too loudly. 😁The little things in life truly do bring me the greatest joy. . . . . . . . . . #longexposure_shots #bestirelandpics #ireland_gram #sligo #loveireland #wanderireland #instaireland #pocket_ireland #youririshadventure #loves_ireland #irelandaily #pocket_allnature #waterfallsfordays

Find that iconic Sligo shot

Day 13: Donegal

The locals at work constantly rave about Donegal and for some crazy reason I still haven’t made it up to this part of the country. The plan is July, but we’ll have to see how it all works out! In the meantime, I found this post from Global Help Swap detailing what to do in Donegal.

Gawk at the Slieve League Cliffs

Climb Mount Errigal

Enjoy the peaceful Glenevin Waterfall

Beach hop and check out the infamous Murder Hole Beach

"A Name can be Deceiving" Boyeeghter Bay or "Murderhole Beach" Melmore Head, County Donegal, Ireland

So there you have it! How to spend 2 weeks in Ireland and take some of the best snaps in the country. I hope this series of posts inspires you to not only come to Ireland, but also to start using Instagram more to plan your trips. With the save functionality I’ve been able to plan out our entire Spain trip without one glance at a blog post. What’s your favorite way to plan a trip?

Whenever you do come to Ireland make sure, above all, to have fun!

Happy Trekking!

Ireland is the perfect place for a road trip. This isn't your typical "road-trip guide", but is filled with some of the most instaworthy corners of the Emerald Isle.
